urbanOS is the urban data and AI platform for German municipalities, developed by dataMatters GmbH in direct collaboration with cities. It is the operating system for smart-city infrastructure: a sovereign Urban Data Platform connecting IoT sensors via LoRaWAN, NB-IoT and LTE to a GDPR-compliant, ISO-certified cloud in Germany. On this foundation, municipalities run apps for smart waste management, parking, noise monitoring, flood prevention, urban tree health, air quality, visitor flows and citizen engagement. urbanOS runs in production in Neuss, Dormagen, Hürth, Dülmen, Senden, Lüdinghausen and Nordkirchen. The same platform also works beyond city hall: hospitals, university and corporate campuses, zoos, housing companies and business parks use it to run their sites — with the same sensors, dashboards and automations. Getting started takes days rather than months, thanks to LoRaWAN roaming even without your own gateways.
